How To Set Up Email Headers and Footers
Want Polished, Branded Emails? It Starts With Your Header and Footer.
Let’s be real: nothing says “small biz that gets it” like a branded email that actually looks good. Your header is the first thing people see. Your footer is where they take action—or bounce.
But most email platforms don’t make it totally obvious how to set them up.
In this post, we’ll walk you through exactly how to upload and place your header and footer designs inside:
Flodesk
Squarespace Email Campaigns
Kajabi
Mailchimp
You don’t need to code anything or hire a designer—you just need the right image blocks and a few tricks to make everything seamless.
Flodesk: The Most Visual-Friendly Platform
Flodesk is our favorite platform for any small business owner and creator starting email marketing. Try Flodesk for FREE here.
To add an e-mail header in Flodesk:
→ Choose an “Image Block” and place it at the top of your email
→ Upload your header image (we recommend 800–1000px wide)
→ Set it to "full width" so it stretches across the top
→ Add your text/content blocks underneath
To add an e-mail footer:
→ Add another Image Block at the very bottom
→ For a seamless look, match Flodesk’s footer background color to the bottom of your image
→ Hide or blend the “Powered by Flodesk” line by matching its background color if you're on the free plan
📱 Always preview in mobile—Flodesk usually resizes beautifully, but check text spacing around the images.
Squarespace Email Campaigns: Clean, Minimal, and Easy to Customize
How do I add an e-mail header in Squarespace:
→ Insert an Image Block at the top of your email
→ Upload your branded header design (600–700px wide works best)
→ Remove padding/margins if needed for a clean, edge-to-edge look
To add an e-mail footer:
→ Add an Image Block at the bottom
→ Set the background color of your email to match the footer’s base color
→ Use a Text Block below the image if you want to add contact info, disclaimers, or legal links
🤩. Pro tip: Don’t upload a footer that’s too tall—stick to 100–200px for a lightweight look and feel.
Kajabi: Upgrade Basic Emails with Branded Visuals
Kajabi’s email builder is pretty minimal, but headers and footers can make it feel way more premium.
To add a header in Kajabi E-mail:
→ In your email editor, select an Image Block and drag it to the top
→ Upload your Canva header (800px wide is a good fit)
→ On the left menu, click on Desktop Layout and use the padding controls to adjust spacing around it. You want space to be 0 on top, right and left, so it looks seamless.
→ Click on Mobile Layout and repeat the padding process.
To add a footer in Kajabi E-mail:
→ Insert an Image Block at the very bottom
→ Use a solid background color at the bottom of your image
→ Use Desktop padding controls to adjust spacing around it. You want space to be 0 on bottom, right and left, so it looks seamless.
→ On the left menu, click on Desktop Layout in the email settings, go to footer and appearance and change Kajabi’s footer background to match your image color (this will make it feels one seamless footer along with the footer Kajabi adds with the unsubscribe button and brand info).
→ Click on Mobile Layout and repeat the padding process.
📱 Don’t forget:
Check mobile view—Kajabi doesn’t auto-resize for mobile, so make sure you click the mobile view option on the top of the page to check and make sure it also looks good on the mobile version for your readers who use their phones to read your emails.
Mailchimp: Reliable and Customizable With the Right Settings
To add a header: → Drag an Image Block into the top of your email
→ Upload your Canva header (600–650px wide is optimal for most templates)
→ Disable image padding so the image spans the full content width
→ Align center for best desktop and mobile experience
To add a footer: → Use an Image Block at the bottom of your layout
→ Match Mailchimp’s footer background color with the base color of your image for a smooth look
→ Use Text Blocks below if you need to add your address, unsubscribe link, or additional info
⚠️ Don’t skip testing—Mailchimp sometimes resizes images unpredictably depending on your layout style.
